THE TEAM

Clemmie Oliver

Founder and IBD Specialist NutritionIST

Clemmie is a Registered Associate Nutritionist (MSc, ANutr) and Qualified Nutritional Therapist (DipION, mBANT, CNHC) with over five years experience working privately in the UK and internationally with people with IBD. She regularly speaks on the topic of nutrition for companies in the UK and globally, and works with a number of IBD charities and companies as a nutrition advisor. She has also carried out research in the area of IBD with the University of Aberdeen.

Clemmie was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis at the age of 9, lived with an ileostomy for seven years, and has had a J-pouch since 2009. She was also diagnosed with IBS in 2014. Her personal experience, and the lack of nutrition support along her journey, is why she is so passionate about helping others with IBD to get the vital nutrition support they need. You can read more about Clemmie’s journey here.

Clemmie set up The Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine Clinic in 2018 to improve the quality of life of other people with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Clemmie and her team are incredibly passionate about empowering patients with IBD by providing evidence-based nutrition support to bring clarity around diet and their IBD, remove fear from food, optimise nutritional intake, and support symptom management, as well as being their patient advocate ensuring they are receiving the care they need.

Outside of being a Nutritionist, Clemmie enjoys being active and is happiest when hiking and climbing mountains in the Highlands of Scotland!

Jess Upton

registered specialist gastroenterology Dietitian

Jess is an HCPC registered, highly specialist gastroenterology Dietitian. She has over 11 years experience working as a Dietitian in the NHS and Private sector both in an inpatient and outpatient setting.

She has a specialist interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), having published a research paper in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition entitled ‘Nutritional Status and Anthropometry in Children with IBD’, and also working clinically with clients. Jess also has significant respect and empathy for clients with IBD, having had the disease herself for the past 24 years. She has personal experience of IBD medications and surgery, and now lives with a permanent ileostomy (stoma). Jess is therefore able to offer both professional nutrition support, and a compassionate understanding to clients seeking IBD support and those living with a stoma.

Jess believes that nutrition plays a significant role in the IBD puzzle and takes pride in supporting clients with evidence-based, tailored advice to enable them to thrive from symptom relief and witness a significant improvement in their quality of life. Jess has experience working with clients requiring Enteral Nutrition and the Crohn’s Disease Exclusion Diet and also has experience with other IBD complications such as Bile Acid Malabsorption.

Jess is incredibly passionate about empowering clients with IBD to take back control over what many view as a life sentence illness by helping to optimise nutritional intake, support symptom management, and ultimately improve their quality of life.

Outside of being a Dietitian, Jess is a keen sportsperson, racing both road and mountain bikes, and playing competitive tennis; trying to show that having IBD and a stoma doesn’t have to stop people living life to the full!

NB: Jess is currently on maternity leave.

HOW we CAN HELP

The Nutrition & Lifestyle Medicine (NALM) Clinic was founded in 2018 and specialises in digestive health and corporate wellness. We incorporate evidence-based nutritional science and lifestyle medicine, and a love of good food, so you can improve your diet and lifestyle, and transform your digestive health.

.01

Personalisation

You are wonderfully unique so what you eat and the way you live will be unique too.

This is not about short-term diets or quick fixes because these don’t work, it is not about deprivation, because we need to make sure we are eating more of the right foods to help us get all the nutrients we need.

This is about long term sustainable positive lifestyle choices for long term health.

.02

EASE

We understand that sometimes it can be challenging just leaving the house when you have digestive problems. We also understand that life is busy and time is precious so we make it easy for you.

You will have appointments with one of our team via video call at a time that suits you. So whether that is from the comfort of your own home, or your office, we can easily fit appointments into your busy schedule.

We provide specific, personalised ideas around the foods you already like and around your lifestyle so its easier to adopt healthier food choices and habits.

.03

Not only are The NALM Clinic team qualified and registered nutrition professionals (Dietitians and Nutritionists) and work with people with IBD every day, we have also been through it ourselves. We have experienced the endless hospital visits, investigations, operations, the accidents, felt the indescribable fatigue, the pain, the despair, and everything else in between. We want you to know you are not alone. We want to help show you there is a light at the end of the tunnel and there is so much you can do to help manage your IBD alongside your medication; the power is in your hands to take back control of your symptoms and we are here to help you.
